Basic Function
The Cervical Cancer Prevention Doctor/Clinical officer will
be responsible for the implementation of high-quality cervical cancer screening
and prevention treatment to increase access to screening and treatment services
for women living with HIV at Coptic and its supported sites.
Job Description
The main responsibilities for the cervical cancer prevention
doctor/clinical officer will be to provide cervical cancer screening using
visual inspection with acetic acid (VIA) and human papillomavirus (HPV) testing
and to treat positive clients with treatment by cryotherapy, thermal ablation,
or loop electrosurgical excision procedure (LEEP).
It also includes the following:
- Perform
screening and/or triage;
- Share
results with clients and discuss appropriate treatment;
- In
consultation with the client and program, develop a treatment plan for
each client, that includes subsequent follow-up and necessary
investigations;
- Develop
and implement standard operating procedures (SOPs);
- Offer
treatment to clients with sexually transmitted infections (STIs),
cervicitis or genital ulcer disease incidentally diagnosed during the
screening process;
- To
manage and report ALL adverse events experienced by the client during
screening and treatment accordingly;
- To
prescribe the needed treatment for the patients or for referral
incidentally diagnosed during the screening process;
- Ensure
proper documentation of all clients attended to in electronic medical
records (EMR) including Kenya EMR (KeMR), canSCREEN and other reporting
platforms;
- Prepare
and submit monthly report on cervical cancer screening and treatment
services provided;
- Attend
cervical cancer screening meetings and advise accordingly.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Demonstrated ability to work effectively and efficiently
within a team; working under minimal supervision, self-motivation and
self-driven to achieve set goals and targets; ability to analyse and report
relevant activities; results oriented and able to meet project deliverables.
Cervical screening: able to perform and interpret VIA, HPV testing, Pap smear,
and colposcopy-directed biopsy. Cervical treatment: able to perform
cryotherapy, thermal ablation, and LEEP.
Qualifications and Experience
- Registered
Clinical Officer or Medical Officer or equivalent with a minimum of 2
years’ experience in
cervical cancer screening and treatment. - MMed
in Obs/Gyn or specialization in gynecological procedures is an
added advantage.
